April 2002 I thought of the first two frames of this cartoon a long time before the last frame. It's hard to come up with a good punchline for things like this. Apparently Napoleon really did have some kind of kidney or bladder stones that had to be pulled out. Shelley, who was taking laudanum for "nervous attacks", is quoting himself from "Ode to the West Wind", the poem that taught me that I hated Romantic poetry because I thought it was hilarious. Romantic poetry isn't supposed to be funny. Mrs. Pacman getting a pap smear? Now that's funny. |
