People are very sensitive about their bowel habits. Seriously, doctors just view learning about such things as their job. I was surprised at how easy it became to ask questions like, "Have you passed gas yet?" and' "Do you have sex with men, women, or both?" (Classic UCSF question, by the way.) When I get the answer, I just write it down and deal with the medical implications. So do us all a favor: tell your doc if you get plugged up for an extended period of time. Because if you don't do it early enough, we'll have to go in and get it out by hand, and that's when we'll really be grossed out.
